An Important Reminder
Regarding E-Mail Fraud
What You Need to Know
As e-mail fraud, also known as phishing, becomes more
and more prevalent, Washington Federal Bank for Savings will provide
periodic updates and reminders to help guard against this activity, and to
protect our valued customers and their sensitive information.
Recognizing Fraud
Phishers will often use a well-known bank, on-line
retailer and/or credit card company names to try to convince recipients to
respond to them. Fraudulent e-mail messages can look convincing with
company logos and banners copied from the actual web sites. Phishing
e-mails may tell you that the bank's security procedures have changed, or
that they need you to update or validate your information. You are
then directed to a look-alike web site. If you respond, the con
artists can use your information to perpetrate identity theft or
compromise your accounts.
Washington Federal Bank for Savings does not send
e-mail messages to customers requesting them to visit any web site to
reveal personal, private or business information. If you or anyone
in your family receives any e-mails requesting you to log onto a WFB web
site and divulge private data, such as account numbers, do not
respond or click on any of the links. Presently, Washington Federal
Bank for Savings does not operate a transactional website which
would provide internet banking.
How to Report a Phishing Attack
To report potentially fraudulent e-mail, that appears to
come from WFB, please feel free to immediately forward the suspected
message to krepiscak@washingtonfederalbank.com.
This mailbox is monitored by our webmaster daily and is the preferred way
of reporting phishing incidents. The original e-mail may contain
information that identifies where it originated, which assists us in
shutting down the web site.
If you are concerned that you may have provided private
information online in response to a fraudulent e-mail message, pop-up or
phony web site claiming to be Washington Federal Bank for Savings, you
should notify the Bank immediately at (773)254-3422.
Your security is of the highest priority, and through
education and awareness, WFB can help ensure you are protected
