Washington Federal Bank for Savings was incorporated in the State of Illinois on April 1, 1913 as a mutual loan
and building association serving the Polish community in the Bridgeport neighborhood of
Chicago, Illinois. In 1934, the Bank purchased it present location at 2869 S. Archer
Avenue, Chicago. On March 1, 1995, the Bank completed its conversion from a
federally-chartered mutual savings bank to a federally-charted stock savings bank.
On May 24, 2004, the Bank expanded its banking operations with the opening
of the first branch office located at 1410 W. Taylor Street in the
"Little Italy" neighborhood of Chicago. Currently, Washington is primarily engaged in the business of accepting deposits from the
general public and using those funds to originate mortgage loans for the purchase and
refinancing of single-family homes primarily located in and around the Bridgeport area (which is
located approximately three miles from Chicagos "Loop") and, to a lesser
extent, the greater Cook and DuPage counties of Illinois. Washington has always focused on providing the community with similar banking
services available at the larger institutions, but with a personal touch allowing each and
every customer feel that they matter to us.
Mission Statement
Washington Federal Bank for Savings’
mission is simple....to provide every customer with personal service and
attentiveness, to provide our customers with deposit instruments which are
highly competitive with the larger institutions and to provide mortgage
loans primarily to individuals seeking to purchase or refinance a home in
the Bridgeport community, as well as the greater Cook and DuPage counties
of Illinois. In following this mission, Washington will be able to
maintain profitability and a strong capital position necessary to continue
well into the future.
